Rusty wiper arm hinge E46

 

2002 E46 320i -Stuck wiper arm

Salted winter roads is really agressively eating the older cars here
in the north.
Salt and water gets into all areas and wreaks havoc corroding everything.

This is the rear wiper arm shoving the effects by seizeing up completely


Rusty tailgate.

Arm removal


Remove wiper arm -13mm hexnut.


Lift the arm off.


Remove the locking nut.


And the circlip.


Last piece is the washer.

Assembly removal


Three 10mm nuts, cover removed.
wiper assembly can be dropped down.


Disconnect hatch button.

On the workbench

Heat and WD-40.


Finally free.


Lcarefull not to remove more than "rust".


scotch brite and fine sandpaper.

Assembly in reverse order

 

I took care not to shatter the window, it is not suitable to heat or work the bushing while it is installet on the car.
On the workbench I could safely heat on lubricate the parts and when finaly separated could clean it.

Do not use grease to lubricate since it is a sintered bushing holding the shaft.
After cleaning i soaked it in gearbox oil.

 

Final

It works as intended, ok for the last month or so atleast, next winter will show.
this is the third time done for this car since 2015
