M43B18 E36 thread insert
1996 E36 318i -engine
A small oil leak in the front and a bigger one in the rear of the engine
was in need of a fix, while removing the bolts the threads followed
one of
the
bolts out.
Top right one would not thread anymore
M43B18 is a 1.8l SOHC, very ok motor, pretty reliable.
regular oilchanges will keep it going for a long time.
Tools
Torque wrench - 10Nm
10mm socket
Tthread insert M6 -this means it is for M5 bolt
M6x1 tap and "driver"
Thread insert tool
For this fix ralso a new valve cover gasket and sealer
Drill and tap
Clean the area and place rag in strategic places
to keep metal shavings out of the engine.
6.3mm drillbit.
Tap gently, use some WD-40 or eq.
Thread insert.
Thread inserted, first CW, when done,
CCW to snap the pin.
Assembly
New gasket
Add som liquid gasket
(red)
Suggested torque order,
After fingertightening.
